Drink Mixing Verbs
BLEND: using an electric blender for mixing drink ingredients
GARNISH: add ingredient(s) to decorate
MIX: add ingredients together in glass
SHAKE: fill shaker half full of ice (crushed when specified, otherwise cubes), add ingredients as directed, shake well to mix ingredients thoroughly
STIR: using a bar spoon (long handled, flat-headed spoon) to mix ingredients
STRAIN: pour off mixture into glass leaving ice behind in shaker or mixing glass
Cocktail Recipes
Apple Pie 1 oz. light rum, ½ oz. sweet vermouth, 1 tsp. applejack, 1 tsp. lemon juice, ½ tsp. grenadine;
SHAKE all ingredients, STRAIN
Black Russian 1 ½ oz. vodka, ½ oz. Kahlua; pour ingredients over ice, STIR
Bloody Mary 2 ½ oz. vodka, 5 oz. tomato juice, ½ oz. lemon juice, 1/8 tsp. black pepper, 1/8 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. celery seed, 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce, 1 dash Tobasco sauce, 1 celery stick, 1 lime wedge; SHAKE all ingredients except celery stick and lime wedge, STRAIN, and GARNISH with celery stick and lime wedge
Boilermaker 1 oz. blended whiskey, 12 oz. beer; pour whiskey into shot glass, drink it in one shot, and follow with the beer (don't "shoot" the beer, sip it)
Brandy Alexander 1 ½ oz. brandy, 1 oz. white creme de cacao, 1 oz. heavy cream, garnish: ¼ tsp. grated nutmeg; SHAKE brandy, crème de cacao and cream, strain, GARNISH with nutmeg
Daiquiri 1 ½ oz. light rum, 1 oz. lime juice, 1 tsp. fine sugar; SHAKE all ingredients, STRAIN
Gimlet 2 oz. gin, ½ oz. Rose's lime juice, 1 lime wedge MIX gin & lime juice over ice cubes, STRAIN, GARNISH with lime

Variation: substitute gin with vodka for a Vodka Gimlet
Greyhound 2 oz. vodka, 5 oz. grapefruit juice; pour vodka and grapefruit juice over ice, STIR
Kamikaze 1 ½ oz. vodka, ½ oz. triple sec, 2 tsp. Rose's lime juice; MIX vodka, triple sec and lime juice over ice, STIR, STRAIN
Long Island Iced Tea 1 oz. vodka, 1 oz. gin, 1 oz. light rum, 1 oz. tequila, 1 oz. lemon juice, 1 tsp. fine sugar, 4 oz. cola;
SHAKE vodka, gin, rum, tequila, lemon juice and sugar, STRAIN into glass with ice cubes, add cola and STIR
Manhattan 2 oz. blended whiskey, ½ oz. sweet vermouth, 3 dashes bitters, 1 maraschino cherry;
MIX whiskey, vermouth, and bitters over ice, STIR, STRAIN and GARNISH with Cherry
Variation: substitute sweet vermouth with dry vermouth for a Dry Manhattan
Margarita 2 tsp. coarse salt, 1 lime wedge, 2 oz. tequila, ½ oz. triple sec, 1 ½ oz. lime juice;
rub rim of glass with lime wedge and then salt rim. SHAKE tequila, triple sec and lime juice, STRAIN, and GARNISH with the lime wedge
Martini 2 ½ oz. gin, 1 tsp. dry vermouth, 1 lemon twist or 1 cocktail olive; MIX gin & vermouth over ice cubes, STRAIN, GARNISH with lemon twist or
Olive
Variation: substitute gin with rum for a Rum Martini
Variation: substitute gin with vodka for a Vodka Martini
Mint Julep 3 oz. bourbon, mint sprigs, 1 tsp. fine sugar, crushed ice; place mint sprigs, sugar and a couple drops of water sit in bottom of glass, STIR gently, add ice & bourbon, GARNISH with extra mint sprig(s)
Rob Roy 2 ½ oz. Scotch, 1 ½ tsp. sweet vermouth, 1 maraschino cherry; MIX scotch and vermouth over ice cubes, STRAIN, GARNISH with
cherry
Variation: substitute sweet vermouth with dry vermouth for a Dry Rob Roy; or include 1 tsp. each dry & sweet vermouth and for a Perfect Rob Roy
Rum Cooler 2 oz. dark or light rum, 4 oz. lemon-line soda, 1 lemon wedge; pour rum and soda over ice, STIR and GARNISH with lemon wedge
Scotch and Water 2 oz. Scotch, 5 oz. water; pour Scotch and water over ice, STIR
Screwdriver 2 oz. vodka, 5 oz. orange juice; pour vodka and orange juice over ice, STIR
Tequila Sunrise 1 ½ oz. tequila, 7 oz. orange juice, 2 tsp. grenadine; pour tequila over ice, STIR, add grenadine into center of the glass
Tom Collins 2 oz. gin, 1 oz. lemon juice, 1 tsp. fine sugar, 3 oz. club soda, 1 maraschino cherry, 1 orange slice; SHAKE gin, lemon juice and sugar, STRAIN into glass of ice cubes, add club soda, STIR, GARNISH with cherry & orange
Variation: substitute gin with rum for a Rum Collins
Variation: substitute gin with vodka for a Vodka Collins
White Russian 1 ½ oz. vodka, 1 oz. Kahlua, 1 oz. light cream; SHAKE all ingredients, STRAIN over ice
